Ultrasound therapy

Ultrasound is essentially an electronic device that uses sound waves to generate heat within the injured area of the body. The therapist utilizes a sound head  similar to one that you would see in a doctor's office where they do sonograms. Lubricant is applied on the sound head and then, in a circular motion, the therapist massages shoulders, hips, neck, back and other muscles or joints using the sonic head. The ultrasonic vibration generates heat, helping with overall blood flow and circulation. It also loosens up tissues to allow them to respond better to stretching or trigger point techniques that the therapist will be using later in treatment. Ultrasound can also be helpful in acute injuries for non-thermal effects, meaning no heat is generated, it can help increase blood flow so that inflammation or swelling is reduced.
